Camera-based flow measurement system
Seba

Conventional flow measurement systems often reach their limits as they rely on a sensor installed either inside the cross-section or on a bridge in the flood area. Image-based flow measurement systems offer a flexible, non-intrusive alternative with real-time water-level, velocity and discharge measurement. Unlike conventional measuring methods, camera-based systems can be installed on a mast or a building on the riverbank and stay unaffected by flood events.

Seba Hydrometrie offers a non-intrusive camera-based discharge solution named DischargeKeeper. Based on the surface structure image velocimetry (SSIV) method, it consists of an IP-camera, an infrared illuminator for measuring at night and a central unit with remote data transmission. The implemented algorithm runs in real time on the device to provide on-site measurement and evaluation. The measuring process, including recording image streams, takes less than one minute. This enables very short measuring intervals, which is very beneficial for flood monitoring.

In addition to the digitalized measured values of the water level, mean flow velocity and discharge, proof images and videos are stored and can be transmitted to an FTP server. The transmitted proof images are helpful for optical verification of the measurement and to support customers’ early warning systems. Find out more at Seba's booth.
