WindBorne combines the most prolific weather balloon constellation in the world with best-in-class AI weather predictions to end weather uncertainty. According to the World Meteorological Organization, in-situ data is only collected over 15% of the planet. WindBorne is extending coverage to 100% with our constellation of long-endurance, autonomously navigated weather balloons. The WindBorne Global Sounding balloon (GSB) travels an average of 12 days, and up to 100, and is capable of triple-circumnavigation while collecting dozens of soundings per flight. WindBorne has launched over 4500 GSBs and currently maintains 12 permanent sites, providing complete coverage of the Northern Hemisphere, with expansion to the Southern Hemisphere underway.
Our weather prediction system, WindBorne WeatherMesh, is currently one of the most accurate AI-based weather models in the world, outperforming both traditional physics-based models and other AI models on medium-range forecasts. WeatherMesh can produce a 10-day forecast in 60 seconds, with DA updates every 20 minutes.
