The "First Mile" of data collection refers to the transmission of environmental data from various sources [smart sensors, data loggers, external providers] to national Data Collection and Processing Systems. A joint Task Team between HMEI and WMO has been established to define a standard solution (protocol and data format). After a year of activity, the group has now started a Proof of Concept. This session will cover the rationale for this activity as well as technical details on the envisaged solution.

The "First-Mile" initiative can be a game changer for the Members and the Industry. Unlike usual WMO standard, this one will be adopted on a voluntary basis by Members and by HMEI. This session will explain the benefit for all parties and the next steps before its endorsement by WMO.
