As extreme weather events become more frequent and severe, organizations across sectors are rethinking how they prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate-driven hazards. This session explores how meteorologists, emergency managers, utility operators, and researchers are applying geospatial thinking and integrated data systems to manage the full lifecycle of extreme weather. Real-world examples will highlight how predictive analytics are helping utilities anticipate storm-related outages, how real-time wildfire monitoring is enhancing situational awareness, and how spatial analysis is being used to protect outdoor workers from extreme heat. We’ll also examine how satellite imagery and climate risk portals support damage assessment and long-term resilience planning. By showcasing these practical applications, the session will demonstrate how location-based insights are enabling faster, smarter, and more coordinated responses to today’s most pressing weather challenges.

  • Understand how GIS and predictive analytics are being applied across sectors to anticipate and respond to extreme weather events.
  • Explore real-world examples of GIS-enabled workflows for situational awareness, damage assessment, and resilience planning.
  • Learn how integrated geospatial data systems and spatial analysis support coordinated, data-driven decision-making during climate-driven hazards.
