Pacific Island National Meteorological and Hydrological Services face significant challenges in maintaining reliable observing systems across remote and resource-constrained environments. This presentation examines how competency-based training and a regional Community of Practice can strengthen technicians’ practical skills, confidence, and collaboration. Drawing on assessments and field experience, it demonstrates how sustained peer learning can improve maintenance practices, data quality, operational consistency, and the long-term resilience of Pacific observing networks.
