Air temperature measurements are fundamental in meteorology and in climatology, as real time data and historical series.

Despite such relevant role, accuracy of air temperature data and complete understanding of uncertainty in measurements are still an open scientific and technological problem. This contribution reports present initiatives by the WMO, the BIPM and international projects, for improving knowledge and methods for air temperature measurements.
