Controlled laboratory experiments were conducted to characterise the response of a leaf wetness sensor (LWS) to water exposure. The sensor response was found to depend most strongly on wetted surface area. Field measurements showed distinct signal signatures indicative of rainfall intensity and near-freezing conditions, demonstrating that LWS data can be used to identify surface-wetting events and wetting modes.
