The transition from magnetron to solid-state weather radar is no longer a forecast; it is operational reality. Meteopress, a Czech radar manufacturer with 75 people, 50 of them scientists and developers, designs and builds solid-state C- and S-band radars now operating on four continents, with recent deployments including a 4.1 m C-band system in Côte d’Ivoire and three S-band radars in Brazil. This session shares what those projects taught us about what met services, airports and utilities need from a modern radar: GPU-based signal processing, AI clutter filtering, IQ data available to every customer, and factory-tested delivery on schedule. It then looks at what comes next: dual-polarization phased-array radars designed as drop-in replacements for existing dish radars, delivering 30-second volumes and up to 67 times more volumetric data from the same site, now in testing and in manufacturing. Not the most exotic phased array. The most deployable one.
