The expanded use of Mode-S EHS aircraft observations in ECMWF's global forecasting system has been a major success, delivering improved forecast skill, especially at low latitudes. We will review the operational use and impact of Mode-S EHS wind observations, present new experiments with Mode-S temperatures, and outline future plans for further exploiting the potential of Mode-S EHS observations.
