Airport Weather Advisor® – AWOS Software Solution
System Architecture
- Outdoor Airfield Station: Collects and verifies sensor data before transmission; customizable sensor suite equipped with barometer, wind speed/direction, temperature, relative humidity, visibility, precipitation, cloud height, present weather, thunderstorm, freezing rain, and weather camera sensors
- Indoor Central Processing Station: Processes sensor data into accurate weather observation reports, archives data, and serves as the hub for user interaction and dissemination
- AWOS Live (Secure Cloud Platform): Enables 24/7 remote monitoring, giving pilots and staff real-time access to weather data and system diagnostics from any screen, plus an AWOS Live Weather Camera for real-time visual insight
Core Features
- Automated Reporting: generates METAR, SPECI, SYNOP, LOCAL, and Daily Summary reports automatically or on-demand with full FAA compliance
- Multi-Sensor Support: integrates wind, temperature, pressure, visibility, ceiling, precipitation, and lightning sensors from multiple manufacturers via serial, network, or analog I/O
- Advanced Algorithms: intelligent weather analysis including RVR calculation, present weather determination, and cloud layer assessment
- Flexible Distribution: disseminates reports via automated voice broadcast (VHF radio/ATIS), email, web interface, FTP, and direct TCP/IP connections
- Virtual Airfield Stations™: groups sensors into logical stations for runway-specific weather monitoring and tailored reporting
- Data Archiving: comprehensive logging with 90-day report retention and 35-day system event logs, with exportable archives for compliance and analysis
Weather Observation & Monitoring
- One-minute observation updates across all sensors
- ATC-ready display interface for air traffic controllers
- Raw sensor data diagnostics and health monitoring
- Present weather identification and coding
- Customizable data views for different user roles
- Configurable SPECI criteria trigger automatic special reports on significant weather changes
- Local weather alerts via email, audible alarms, and on-screen notifications
User Access & Interfaces
- Browser-based main application with full administrative capabilities (works with all major browsers)
- Web-based remote access for monitoring and basic control
- Dedicated ATC observation display for air traffic control towers
- Diagnostic terminal interface for maintenance personnel
