MeteoRain® 400 Aero is a professional precipitation gauge developed for locations where wind exposure, intense rainfall and long-term measurement stability challenge conventional tipping-bucket instruments. It combines a super-aerodynamic 400 cm² catchment funnel with BARANI’s proven self-balancing, self-emptying measuring mechanism, delivering precise rainfall data with low maintenance requirements.

The aerodynamic funnel is designed to improve precipitation capture in windy conditions without requiring a separate wind fence. Inside the gauge, the refined measuring mechanism resists many of the effects that commonly degrade rainfall measurements, including wind-induced vibration, dirt, dust, sand, debris, mechanical friction and residual water from a previous rain event. Its self-balancing operation also provides high resistance to vibration and non-level installation, helping preserve measurement consistency in demanding field environments. The mechanism offers a stable long-term response while allowing uninterrupted Class A precipitation measurement across changing rainfall amounts and intensities.

MeteoRain 400 Aero provides 0.1 mm resolution from a 400 cm² collection area and achieves ±1% field performance accuracy, with each unit individually calibrated and tested. Its long-term stability is specified at better than 0.0125 mm per year. The instrument delivers Class A performance according to UNI EN 17277 Hydrometry at rainfall intensities up to 60 mm/h without intensity compensation and up to 600 mm/h with compensation. Its measuring range extends to 1,050 mm/h in above-freezing conditions, making it suitable for reliable monitoring of extreme, high-intensity precipitation events.

Designed for continuous outdoor operation, the gauge works across a temperature range of -40 °C to +80 °C and 0-100% relative humidity. The robust housing is impact-resistant to golf-ball-sized hail, rated IP66W according to DIN 40050. High-quality sealed reed switches and weather-resistant electronics protection help guard the instrument against salt spray, water, frost and heat.

A fast reed-switch pulse output enables straightforward integration with standard data loggers, PLCs and professional weather-station systems. The 0-24 VDC electrical interface and two-conductor cable connection support uncomplicated deployment in both new and existing monitoring networks. The gauge measures 316 mm in diameter and 302 mm in height, with a mass of approximately 0.5 kg without its mounting assembly. A durable 3 mm stainless-steel mounting bracket is included in the packaging.

Maintenance is intentionally simple. The catchment assembly and internal components are removable and easy to clean, while the protected measuring mechanism can be adjusted and recalibrated when required. The modular platform can also be converted to the MeteoRain 533 configuration, providing a 533 cm² collection area and 0.075 mm resolution, or to the MeteoRain 200 configuration with a 200 cm² collection area and 0.2 mm resolution.

MeteoRain 400 Aero is designed for professional meteorology, hydrology, agriculture, coastal monitoring, industrial and PLC applications, smart cities, IoT networks, solar power plants and automatic weather stations. It is particularly well suited to windy or exposed locations where measurement precision, minimal servicing and stable long-term performance are essential.
