Enrico Chinchella
Research Fellow,
University of Genova
Enrico Chinchella received his Ph.D. in fluid dynamics and environmental engineering in May 2023 at the University of Genova (Italy). His research work focuses primarily on the accuracy of atmospheric precipitation measurements and bias correction techniques. He developed an innovative laboratory calibration device for non-catching instruments, including disdrometers. His work was also relevant for the development of the UNI EN 18097:2025, which includes a laboratory calibration procedure for non-catching precipitation measuring instruments. He also addressed the evaluation of the environmental bias induced by wind on both traditional catching-type precipitation gauges and disdrometers. This later work was conducted using numerical simulations and extensive wind tunnel experiments. Currently he is a research fellow, collaborating with the WMO measurement lead centre “B. Castelli” on precipitation intensity, at the University of Genova (Italy).
