Jérôme Le Coz
Scientist,
INRAE
Since 2003, Jérôme Le Coz has been a researcher in the River Hydraulics team at INRAE’s RiverLy research unit in Lyon (Villeurbanne), France, with a one-year sabbatical (2015–2016) at NIWA in Christchurch, New Zealand. He holds engineering degrees from the École Polytechnique (2001) and ENGREF (2003), and a Master’s degree in hydrology and hydrogeology from the University of Paris VI (2003). Whilst working on his PhD (2007) on the hydro-sedimentary behaviour of alluvial river abandoned channels, he was fascinated to discover his first hydroacoustic profiler (ADCP), image velocimetry and the hydrometric community. Since then, Jérôme has been working with his colleagues and students to develop research and tools for measuring and modelling water and sediment flows in rivers, and for quantifying the associated uncertainties (Habilitation in 2017). In particular, he co-develops and distributes the free software programmes BaRatin (rating curve estimation) and Fudaa-LSPIV (video-based velocity and discharge measurement). He co-ordinates the French-speaking professional network Groupe Doppler Hydrométrie (600 members), the Hydrometry Section of the Société Hydrotechnique de France, has delivered various training courses in hydrometry. He is a member of the Expert-Team Hydrometry of WMO. He chairs the AIRH/WMO/AISH International Organising Committee for hydrometry training courses.
